    A. Rebar is our reinforcement of choice. It can be combined with other types of reinforcement if required and/or requested.

  • Q. Does S&S Concrete repair or fix cracks in existing concrete?

    A. We do not specialize in any type of resurfacing. Generally if your concrete is cracked it will need to be replaced.

  • Q. Does S&S Concrete do sealant work?

    A. We commonly seal our work upon completion; however, we do not specifically only seal existing concrete.

CONCRETE MAINTENANCE

  • Q. Can I use salt or deicer on my concrete?

    A. We do not recommend the use of deicers. They are harmful to concrete because they create a freeze-thaw effect. We suggest the use of sand or kitty litter.

  • Q. Why does my new exposed aggregate concrete look white/patchy?

    A. This is known as efflorescence and can occur with any product containing cement. It will generally go away on its own after a couple of weeks but if it doesn’t a mild acid wash should do the trick.

  • Q. How long does it take for concrete to cure?

    A. It attains nearly 80% strength within the first week. It takes a minimum of 28 days to attain maximum strength.

  • Q. What if it rains after my concrete is poured?

    A. Rain will not affect exposed aggregate concrete as the surface has already been washed away to achieve the exposed look. Brush or smooth surface concrete will need to be covered if rain is expected within the first couple hours after it is poured.

  • Q. Will sealing my concrete prevent damage?

    A. Applying a sealant is a very good idea but is by no means a fail-safe.  To ensure the surface life, you should never use salt or de-icing chemicals on your concrete as they create a freeze-thaw effect which breaks down the surface causing pitting or delamination.
